#Seminar: Discover the teachings of the Apostle Paul from a Hebraic perspective

Apostle Paul is certainly one of the most misunderstood biblical figures from the time of his apostolic ministry to the present day.

Even the apostle Peter commented on this in 2 Peter 3:15-16

and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation – as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. And see the longsuffering of our Lord as your salvation, as our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given to him, as well as in all his letters where he speaks of these things.

In them many things are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and the unsolidified twist, as do the other writings, to their own destruction.

A better and new understanding of Paul

The interpretations of the teachings of Paul by the early church fathers formed the basis on which Christian doctrines developed, shaped and firmly established themselves.

Today, biblical scholars examine and re-evaluate these doctrines by studying the letters of Paul from a Jewish context within the historical background of the 2nd temple era in which Paul’s ministry took place.

A new Perspective

In this seminar we will examine the teachings of Paul from a Hebraic perspective, with contributions from the most recent discussions and discoveries among scholars on the teachings of Paul. We peel back all the layers to the core to uncover the real Paul and his authentic message in his own words.

Addressing, controversial issues such as:

– Did Paul reject Judaism?
– Did Paul reject Jewish customs?
– The influence of Church history, discover the truth
– Contra to current doctrine, find Paul’s real view on salvation, grace, justification by faith, and the law
– Shabbat and the day of the Lord
– Woman

Discover the true Apostle Paul

Studying Paul from a Hebraic point of view brings about a significant paradigm shift. The traditional Christian view and interpretation of Paul were influenced mainly by Augustine of Hippo (354 – 430 CE), who was a prolific writer and produced a large body of work during his life.

Martin Luther, who was an Augustine monk, studied the works of Augustine intensively. With the reformation, Luther developed the interpretations of Augustine further. He added his insight, which in turn had a significant influence on Erasmus, Zwingli, Calvin, and those who followed after them.

With each of these spiritual Leaders adding their layer of interpretation, we have today an understanding of Paul, which does not align with the teachings of the authentic Paul, the Jewish Pharisee.

In Antiquity, it was a standard practice to write letters, and literature under the name of a person whom the writer respects, agreed with, or wanted to honour. Paul made such an impact on his disciples that they wrote letters under his name in his honour. Some of those are taken up into the New Testament and is imperative for us to recognise as secondary sources when we study the real Paul. Discover whether Paul actually wrote all letters attributed to him.

Events and influences which had their part to play in the development of the Christian faith and the traditional interpretation of Apostle Paul did not start at the Council of Nicene under Constantine as often mentioned among believers, but already developed during the middle to late 1st Century.

We need to both understand the reasons and circumstances which surrounded Paul and the development, which proceeded to form the traditional interpretations of Paul’s teachings before we can peel back the layers to find the real Paul, listen to him in his own words, and his message.

In this Seminar, we explore the development of the Pauline studies and interpretations, and then peel the layers back to the core, to understand the Jewish Apostle Paul and his message in his own words.

This seminar will clarify many difficult scriptures and give a new perspective on the apostle Paul, his ministry and his letters!
